Andrew Herceg
Andrew Herceg, 82, of Sarver passed away Friday at UPMC Passavant, McCandless.
Born Oct. 1, 1927, in Logans Ferry, Allegheny County, he was the son of John and Pauline (Guber) Herceg.
Andrew graduated from Plum High School, received his bachelor's from Slippery Rock University and his master's from the University of Pittsburgh.
He served in the 6th Army, 20th Infantry Division, from July 1946 until June 1948 as a staff sergeant.
After 35 years, he retired from the South Butler County School District in 1985 as the director of supervision and curriculum.
Throughout the years, Andy was a member of many educational and mathematical organizations. He also was a member of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.
Andy enjoyed traveling; gardening; jigsaw and crossword puzzles; photography; cooking; local college, high school and professional sports; and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his loving wife, Doris (Szebalskie) Herceg, whom he married June 22, 1957; his son, Douglas Herceg of Bethel Park; his daughter, Deborah Steiner of Cabot; his grandchildren, Alana and Cora Herceg, both of Blawnox, and Noah and Rachel Steiner, both of Cabot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Herceg; and his sister, Julia.
<B>HERCEG</B> — Friends of Andrew Herceg, who died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Saxonburg, with the Rev. Roger G. Keller officiating.
