Lloyd McCommon
Lloyd Frank "Dopey" McCommon, 84, of Slippery Rock, Brady Township, died at 1 a.m. Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born in Butler County, June 2, 1926, he was the son of Charles Troy McCommons and Cora Velma McConnell.
He was married to Johanna Maria Larson on Oct. 31, 1944.
He had worked in strip mines and had been a bulldozer operator.
Mr. McCommon was a Protestant.
He enjoyed fishing and also collected pictures.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Johanna McCommon at home; two sons, Lloyd G. McCommon and his wife, Lois, of Butler and Milton C. McCommon and his wife, Diane, of Dauphin, Dauphin County; a daughter, Erla V. and her husband, James Gaines of New Kensington; five brothers, Merle E. "Snoozy" McCommon and his wife, Jean, of Gerard, Ohio, Milton C. "Mick" McCommon and his wife, June, of East Canton, Ohio, Clark V. "Pal" McCommon and his companion, Carol, of Slippery Rock, Ben M. McCommon of Slippery Rock and Gerald W. "Jake" McCommon of Slippery Rock; and two sisters, Ruth J. and her husband, James Graham of Malvern, Ohio, and Dorothy V. Miller of Butler. Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
<B>MCCOMMON</B> — A memorial service for Lloyd Frank "Dopey" McCommon, who died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>; 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Jim Lewis of the West Liberty United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation for family and close friends will be from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. There will be no public visitation.
