James W. Miller
James W. Miller, 78, of Laporte, Sullivan County, passed away Monday at the Williamsport Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Jim was born in Butler, Feb. 26, 1932, a son of the late Lester and Florence Marie Byers Miller.
He graduated from Butler High School, a member of the Class of 1950.
He married his loving spouse, the former Marilyn G. Patten of Butler, on June 7, 1952. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Jim began working for J.C. Penney in 1950, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954.
Returning to J.C. Penney, he worked at various stores in Western Pennsylvania and also in Delaware, New Jersey, New York City and Virginia, retiring as a store manager in McLain, Va., in 1978 after 39 years.
He and Marilyn moved to their permanent residence in Laporte in 1980.
Jim was a member of the Laporte United Methodist Church and a member of the Lake Mokoma Association, the Mokoma Conservancy, the Eagles Mere Country Club, the Eagles Mere-Laporte Lions Club and the J.C. Penney Retirees Association.
Surviving are his wife Marilyn at home; five children and their spouses, Warren J. and Debbie Miller of Bridgeville, Pa., Cheryl and David Bremer of Millersville, Md., Mark and Eileen Miller of Kansas City, Kan., Wendy and Dennis O'Connell of Cliffside Park, N.J., and Claudia and Tom Clark of Bristow, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Buffington and Janice Vavro; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest and his wife, Evelyn Miller; and a sister, Helen Miller.

Brown, officiating.
