GE inks deal for up to 215 locomotives
ERIE — GE Transportation has signed a deal to deliver up to 215 locomotives to a Brazilian company by 2015.
GE isn't spelling out terms of the deal, but says MRS Logistica SA is buying 115 train engines and has an option to buy 100 more.
Although the order will help the company's bottom line, it will not increase employment at GE Transportation, which is based in the Erie suburb of Lawrence Park Township. That's because the locomotive engines will be provided through another GE plant in Grove City and the locomotives will be assembled with most other parts produced by a GE plant in Contagem, Brazil.
GE will deliver the first 60 locomotives next year, with 55 more between 2012 and 2015.
