Betty Rachel McGirr
Betty Rachel McGirr, 88, of Harrisville, formerly of Brady Township, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Monday at Grove City Medical Center following a short illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Clay Township, Butler County, the daughter of the late Lester Chalmers Hall and Jessie Leona Reagle Hall.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Woolworths in Butler years ago. She was a charter member of Slippery Rock Alliance Church and also Moraine Sportsman's Club. She was a former 4-H leader, and she enjoyed fishing and loved making crafts, especially Christmas ornaments.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. David (Linda) McDowell of Harrisville; two granddaughters, Mrs. Troy (Amy) Mack of Harrisville and Mrs. Michael (Annette) Doerflinger of Slippery Rock; and six great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Jacob Kulp, Christopher Mack, and Michael, Lexi and Hunter Doerflinger; and a sister, Mrs. Burton (Nevada) Kelly of Slippery Rock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie E. McGirr, who died Aug. 27, 1997; three sisters; and two brothers.
<B>MCGIRR — </B>Friends of Betty Rachel McGirr, who died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at <B>WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, </B>132 Main Street, West Sunbury. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Thursday, the Rev. P. Joseph Barth, her pastor officiating.Burial will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
