PITTSBURGH — Former Brewers manager Ken Macha and Jeff Banister have interviewed as the Pittsburgh Pirates search for their next manager.
Macha, a Pittsburgh-area native, was fired this month after going 157-167 in two seasons with Milwaukee. He had a 368-280 record from 2003-06 with Oakland, where his clubs won the AL West in 2003 and 2006.
Banister has been in the Pirates' organization for 25 years as a player, minor league manager and major league and minor league field coordinator.
PITTSBURGH — Butler native Don Kelly, a utility player with the Detroit Tigers and a former Pittsburgh Pirate, was inducted into the Point Park University Athletic Hall of Fame Sunday.Kelly hit .245 with nine homers and 27 RBI in his first full major league season this year. He had a career batting average of .413 at Point Park.
HARMAR TWP — Mars defeated Canon-McMillan, 6-0, in the title game of the St. Margaret Foundation Fall Faceoff Hockey Tournament Monday.The event raised $21,000 for the St. Margaret Foundation.Seneca Valley also participated.
INDIANAPOLIS — The No. 21 Slippery Rock University men's soccer team is second in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings.The Rock (9-2-1) defeated Ohio Dominican and Ashland — two of the top teams in the Midwest Region last week.
