Floyd L. Johnston, former Mars bank president
Floyd L. Johnston, 86, of Zelienople, formerly of Mars and Richland Township, died Tuesday morning at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.
Born in Mars, Feb. 25, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Martha Davies Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and William Johnston.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ruth A. Gray Johnston; and five children, Richard Johnston of Las Vegas, William Johnston and his wife, Wendy, of Valencia, Dwight Johnston of Butler, Joseph Johnston and his wife, Dottie, of Renfrew and Linda Doman and her husband, Jack, of Pittsburgh. He was the very dear "Pap-Pap" to 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Floyd retired as president of Mars National Bank in 1989 and continued to serve on the board of directors, totaling more than 50 years of service to the bank. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Banker's Association.
He was very active in Mars as a life member of the Mars Volunteer Fire Company, the Mars VFW Post 7505, the Mars American Legion and the Mars Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.
Caring and compassionate, Floyd was loved and respected by family and friends. He enjoyed life, golfing, playing cards, being outdoors and watching all types of sports. He especially valued family celebrations, holidays and traditions.

Johnston, who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Hoogerbrugge of the Passavant Retirement Community officiating. Burial will be in the Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Members of the John E.
