Furnishings and items from the den of legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden were on display in the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame Tuesday in Los Angeles. The Wooden family loaned the contents of his den, featuring everything from numerous awards and medals to arts and crafts given to him by his grandchildren, to the school's athletic department.

The Butler Area Midget Football League will hold three all-star games Saturday at Memorial Park:

• The sixth-grade game will be played at 10 a.m.

• The seventh-grade game will be played at noon.

• The eighth-grade game will be played at 2 p.m.

SHREVEPORT, La. — Butler Township resident Dan Gray finished the first day of the BASS Federation World Championship Mid-Atlantic Division in fourth place out of nine anglers.Gray caught three fish totaling 3 pounds, while the division leader managed 10 pounds.The three-day event continues today on the Red River.

INDIANAPOLIS — Student athletes are earning degrees at record rates, graduate at higher rates than other students, and football players and black men's basketball players are making big gains in the classroom, according to the NCAA's annual Graduation Success Rate figures.The report shows 79 percent of all Division I athletes entering school between 2000-01 and 2003-04 earned a degree within six years. That matches last year's record number.Traditionally, student athletes have graduated at higher rates than the overall student body.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A Notre Dame student died Wednesday after the tower from which he was filming football practice fell over.Declan Sullivan, a 20-year-old junior from Long Grove, Ill., was transported from the LaBar practice complex to a South Bend hospital, where he died.Authorities were investigating the incident. The hydraulic scissor lift, which can be lowered or raised depending on needs, stretched across a nearby street.
