2 dead as result of Buffalo crash
BUFFALO TWP — A weekend crash that killed two young men and left two others hospitalized was so violent that the engine was torn from their car.
All four occupants were thrown out of the speeding Volkswagen GTI and landed in a yard — along with the engine, police said.
“The car sort of exploded after it hit the utility pole,” said township police officer Rich Baney. “The debris field that was left was very large.”
Killed as a result of the late Friday night crash were Zachary Bombalsky, 19, of Natrona Heights; and Donald Robinson, 20, of Tarentum.
Authorities have not released the names of the two survivors, a 20-year-old from Natrona Heights and a 20-year-old from Apollo. Their conditions were not known this morning.
The men reportedly were driving home after attending the Light Up Night celebration in Pittsburgh.
Police still are investigating the crash but said speed was a factor.
