Seneca math teacher dies from gunshot
LANCASTER TWP — A Seneca Valley High School math teacher was shot in the side of the head Wednesday morning in the kitchen of the log cabin home he rented on Route 19, investigators said.
State police are investigating 48-year-old Steven William Russo’s death as a homicide.
It was not known this morning if police have any suspects in the slaying.
Russo’s daughter found his body about 11:25 a.m. Wednesday.
She and her father had planned to go shopping that day, authorities said. When she was unable to reach him by telephone, she drove to the house at 472 Perry Highway, also known as Route 19.
A part-time Lancaster Township police officer was first there. He called Zelienople police for help. Jackson Township police also assisted in the initial response.
State police were eventually called, and are investigating the case.
Police are releasing few details about the investigation.
An autopsy Thursday determined Russo died of a single gunshot wound above an ear. The slug from the small caliber gun was recovered during the autopsy.
Martin’s Funeral Home is handling Russo’s funeral arrangements.
