Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus 2nd Lt.
Matthew Van Arsdale, U.S. Army, was selected as the Hokie Hero for the Virginia Tech versus University of Virginia game.A 2009 graduate of Virginia Tech, Van Arsdale is currently stationed at Forward Operating Base Boris, in the Paktika Province of Afghanistan, as a member of the 506th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.He is the son of John and Susan Van Arsdale of Harmony and husband of Allison Van Arsdale. He is a 2005 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.The corps Hokie Hero program honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed.———Air Force Airman
Christopher Shick has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.He is the son of Sheree Shick and grandson of Richard E. Freehling, both of Butler.Shick graduated in 2009 from Knoch High School.———Marine Corps Cpl.
Peter Eilenfeldt, son of Ray Eilenfeldt of Butler, recently completed the motor vehicle operator course at Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.Eilenfeldt, a 2006 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, joined the Marine Corps in May 2007.
