MERCER TWP — A 41-year-old woman died early Sunday morning when the car she was driving crashed and rolled over on Route 8 near the Butler-Venango County line, state police said.

Brenda K. Morrison of Barkeyville, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of her 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and landed in a corn field just north of Sutherland Road.

Butler County Coroner William Young III pronounced Morrison dead at the scene shortly after the 1:05 a.m. crash.

Young said the woman died of massive injuries.

Police said Morrison was traveling north on Route 8, apparently headed home, when she lost control of her car, which ran off the road.

Morrison, who worked at Reynolds Packaging Corp. in Grove City is survived by a daughter.

The Cunningham Funeral Home of Grove City is handling funeral arrangements.
