Teens arrested for A-Plus store robbery
A pair of boys accused of stealing five packs of cigarettes at gunpoint from a West Jefferson Street convenience store were not on the lam long enough to smoke them all.
According to a Butler police report issued this morning, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both of Butler, were arrested Thursday in connection with the Wednesday morning robbery at the A-Plus store.
During that robbery, one of the robbers forced the clerk at gunpoint into a back room and onto the floor while the other robber stole five packs of Newport cigarettes.
The boys’ names were not released due to their age. Each is charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy and they were turned over to juvenile authorities.
The weapons, alleged to be soft-air pistols, were not recovered. However, clothing worn by the alleged robbers was found.
The pair allegedly walked into the A-Plus at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves and carrying what appeared to be pistols.
The clerk on duty claimed he was unable to access the cash drawer or open the store’s safe and was forced into the back room of the store.
Detective Sgt. Dave Dalcamo, who is heading the ongoing investigation, had no comment this morning regarding the case.
