Quick thinking helps prevent fire in Lancaster Township

LANCASTER TWP — A malfunctioning hot water tank nearly caused a fire this morning at a home on High Acres Road.

Chief Tim Sapienza of the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company said this morning the homeowner prevented the problem from escalating by turning off the breaker for the tank.

“It appears the thermostat shorted out,” Sapienza said.

The house at 211 High Acres Road was filling with smoke so the occupants, the Dillons, had the responding firefighters ensure a fire would not ignite.

Crews cleared the scene within 45 minutes of the 4:45 a.m. 911 call.
