Robert F. “Putts” Fontaine Jr., 71, of Butler died Friday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born Dec. 3, 1938, in Butler, he was a son of the late Robert F. Fontaine Sr. and Exie Miller Fontaine.

In 2002, he retired from Trinity Industries, having previously worked in the Forge Department of Pullman Standard.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he had worked for three years for the T.W. Philips Gas and Oil Co. before enlisting.

His hobbies were woodworking since he liked making things for his house and yard, and having a big garden every summer for use at home. He also enjoyed giving food to his family and friends.

He was an avid NASCAR and football fan and liked to hunt at the farm where he grew up. He and his wife enjoyed camping, cook outs, fishing and being with other campers.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Young Fontaine, who he married Jan. 24, 1989; three children, Robert H. Fontaine and his wife, Donna, of Meridian, Bonnie Fontaine of Butler, and Robin J. Krause and her husband, Brian, of Butler; three stepchildren, Paul Moore and his wife, Janie, of Butler; Edward Moore and his wife, Christine, of Alexandria, Va., and Mary Cousins and her husband, Wayne, Nicholson of Beaver Falls; one brother, Joel Fontaine of Meridian; five sisters: Mary Fontaine of Florida, Irma Sumansky and her husband, Larry, of Butler, Rita Dorsch and her husband, Tom, of Mars, Irene Rihn and her husband, Lance, of Florida, and Carol Fontaine and her husband, Lew Baker, of Vandergrift; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Fontaine.

<B>FONTAINE</B> — Friends of Robert F. “Putts” Fontaine Jr., who died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Private interment will take place Monday at Butler County Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice program of the Butler V.N.A., 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
