Dorothy V. Stroup, 88, of Vogel Road in Butler died Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Maryland, the daughter of the late Alva and Zula Schultz Stevens.

She was a charter member of the Jolly Girls bowling league at Sherwood Lanes. During the 1950s, she was president of the McQuistion School PTA for two years. She was an avid bridge player and dearly loved her Friday night poker party.

Dorothy was a member of the Oak Hill Christian Church.

Her husband of 56 years, Vance L. Stroup, preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded by her daughter, Patricia S. Steighner, in 2009.

Surviving are her sons and their wives, Richard “Dick” and Elizabeth “Betsy” Stroup of Mansfield, Ohio, and Steve and Kathy Stroup of Nashville, Tenn.; Anne Falkner of Charlotte, N.C., and Cynthia “Cindy” Betres and her husband, Frank Betres, of Butler.

Dorothy was the essence of perfection as a grandmother to her 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

<B>STROUP — </B>Friends of Dorothy V. Stroup, who died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, </B>201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Phillip Conyers, pastor of the Oak Hills Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
