Arthur A. “Ferd” Rotnour Jr., 87, of Harmony died Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born Sept. 6, 1923, in Harmony, he was the son of Arthur and Garnet Schantz Rotnour.

Mr. Rotnour was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, 501st Parachute Infantry, where he jumped on D-Day in the Normandy invasion and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He retired after many years as an inspector in the seamless department for J&L Steel, which became LTV Steel.

Mr. Rotnour was a former Eagle Scout and member of the Zelienople American Legion Post 474 and the Evans City Sportsman's Club. An avid hunter, he shot the fifth largest bear in Pennsylvania a few years back, liked loading his own shells and loved his camp in Clermont, McKean County, which he built himself. He also loved boating, water-skiing and all forms of exercising.Mr. Rotnour was a member of the Grace Church of Harmony.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Lane Rotnour, who he married Dec. 3, 1941; three daughters, Sherry Buzzard of Harmony, Vicki Smith Grindel (Ed) of Evans City and Patti Helgerman (Mark) of Harmony; five grandchildren, Jennifer Schoeffel, Abby Elsess, and Emily, Kristen and Joshua Helgerman.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rotnour; a grandson, Eric Smith, and a grandson-in-law, Brett Elsess.

<B>ROTNOUR</B> — Friends of Arthur A. “Ferd” Rotnour Jr., who died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME</B>, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be private.
