MUDDY CREEK TWP — The first Moraine Winterfest will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at McDanel's Launch on the North Shore of Moraine State Park.

Admission is free and so are the activities, which include a snow shoe workshop, family winter nature hike, ice skating (ice permitting/take own skates), children's crafts and snow activities, dog sled team, cross country skiing (take own skis), and music by Tom Panei.

A chili cookoff offers samples at $1 for a taste or $3 for a bowl. Proceeds benefit the Moraine Preservation Fund. Prizes will be awarded with winners selected by attendees.

Other upcoming events planned at Moraine are a cross country ski clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 4 on the South Shore and a family ice fishing program (reservations needed) from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Region 2 Office, 195 Park Road.

Outdoor events at McConnells Mill include a beauty of winter guided hike from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 12. For more information, call 724-368-3612.

Butler Little Theatre is now conducting the Children and Youth Theatre Program, 12-weeks of theater orientation, acting classes and rehearsal for a staged production.Classes are Mondays for youths in grades three and four, Tuesdays for those in grades five and six, and Wednesdays for those in grades seven through 12.All classes are from 5 to 6:30 p.m.Cost is $50 for the first child in a family; $90 for two; and $135 for three. PITTSBURGH — The Senator John Heinz History Center presents the fourth annual Quilter's Weekend, showcasing the history of quilting in Western Pennsylvania with a variety of displays, vendors and featured speakers.Quilter's Weekend will feature a total of 19 quilting vendors and guilds along with more than 30 local quilts on display.Hands-on demonstrations of quilting techniques from local experts will be given.Visitors can also take their gently used quilting books for a book exchange and meet experts from quilting guilds and shops throughout the region.Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the center, 1212 Smallman St.Quilter's Weekend is free with history center admission, which is $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens age 62 and older, $5 for students with valid ID and children ages 4 to 17, and free for children age 3 and younger. PITTSBURGH — The “Marilyn Monroe: Life as a Legend” exhibit ends on Sunday, but future events at the Andy Warhol Museum, 117 Sandusky St., include:• “Upside Down: Haitian Art in the Aftermath of Chaos,” through Jan. 30.• “Our Hit Parade” inspired by the musical sketch series, “Your Hit Parade” that ran on radio and television from the mid 1930s to late 1950, as part of the series Off the Wall: 2011.
