Kathryn L. Hughes
Kathryn L. “Kate” Hughes, 91, formerly of Butler and Sun City Center, Fla., passed away at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 26 at Fair Winds Manor in Sarver after a short illness. She had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Sarver since 2003.
Born July 25, 1919, in Butler, she was the daughter of late Walter A. Morris and Myrtle P. (Campbell) Morris.
Mrs. Hughes graduated from Butler High School in 1937. She opened a school of elocution, expression and speech on Jefferson Street in Butler, where she taught for a number of years. She also was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hughes loved being with her grandsons and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, writing letters and entertaining family and friends.
She was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir for a number of years. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the We Three Trio, who performed for different functions in the Butler area in the 1950s and 1960s. She was a current member of the Butler Blind Association and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Maqueda Chapter.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by one daughter, Valerie D. Simon and son-in-law, Jeffrey, of Sarver; two grandsons, Joshua D. Klugh and his wife, Lisa, of Irwin and Andrew D. Klugh and his wife, Megan, of Hermitage; three great-grandchildren, Lillian Kathryn Klugh of Irwin and Brayden David and Lauren Elisabeth Klugh of Hermitage; one sister, Jane Eberhardt of Butler; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Russell D. Hughes, who died Sept. 22, 1989; a younger sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Campbell, formerly of Grove City; two nieces; and two nephews.

North St., Butler, Saturday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. Immediately following at 4 p.m., the funeral service will be at the funeral home with the Rev.
