Paul B. Hoffman

Paul Baxter Hoffman, 94, of Verona, formerly of Butler, died Monday at his home.

He was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Butler, the son of the late Carl Frederick Hoffman Sr. and the late Ruth Logan Hoffman.

He was a graduate of Muskingum College and Columbia University Business School and was president and partner of Hoffman Auto Parts.

An active member in the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and clerk of sessions.

As a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, he was a patrol bomber pilot in Squadron VPB 123 in World War II.

He was a member of the Victory Lodge 694, Butler Country Club and a board member of the Butler County Symphony.

He was the beloved husband to the late Mary Bernadine Schweppe Hoffman, who he married June 20, 1944; the loving father of three daughters, Mrs. Bryson (Mimi) Datt, Mrs. Bill (Nancy) Remaley and Mrs. Tom (Becky) Wiles, all of Pittsburgh; an inspiration to eight grandchildren, Bryson (Sarah), Baxter and Andrew Datt, Christopher and Ellen Remaley, and Lauren (Noah Marble), Logan and Anna Wiles; and four great-grandchildren, Libby and Bryson Datt III and Ivan and Max Remaley. A cherished niece and five nephews also survive.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Paul Baxter Hoffman Jr., who died in 1961, and a brother, Carl “Jake” Hoffman.

<B>HOFFMAN</B> — Friends of Paul Baxter Hoffman, who died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, will be received from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Friday at Covenant United Presbyterian the Church, Butler. A memorial service with the Rev. Dr. James Swanson officiating will be at noon Friday with a reception at the church to follow.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, 230 E.
