David E. Deal
David E. Deal, 61, of Woodbine, Md., formerly of Butler, died Thursday at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born March 23, 1949, in Butler, he was a son of George E. Deal and the late Anna G. (Groves) Deal.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
David was a graduate of Knoch High School and received an associates degree from Butler County Community College.
He was active in the Butler Little Theatre for more than 30 years as an actor, director, producer and board member. He also was active in other theatres in and around Butler County, including Comtra. Other theatres include the Gettysburg Stage and the Mobtown Players in Baltimore, Md.
His credits include regional commercials, a PBS documentary, training videos and website voice-overs. He was a radio news director, announcer, sports play-by-play at WKST in New Castle, was an account executive for WFEM, was a news and sports announcer for WBUT/WLER in Butler, was a news announcer for WGET/WGTY in Gettysburg and also for a Florida radio station.
He wrote articles for the Butler Eagle and the Nuts N Bolts Auto newsletter and had previously worked for Vogel Disposal and the Service Technician Society.
David was an avid singer, writer, musician, golfer, backyard mechanic, hunter and fisherman; and his other interests included animals, science, Kokopelli, Van Gogh, Seinfeld reruns, food and laughter.
Surviving are his daughter, Laura L. Russell, and her husband, Andrew, of Butler; three sons, Bryan D. Deal and his wife, Susan, of Port Washington, Wisc., Gregory G. Deal and his wife, Brianne, of Butler and Steven C. Deal of Pasadena, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kelsy, Xavier, Hudson and Espn Deal; his father, George E. Deal of Butler; two brothers, George Thomas Deal of Ford City and Samuel Deal of Butler; two sisters, Brenda Hall of Butler and Pamela Hesselgesser of Slippery Rock; his companion, Mary Kay Rapp of Woodbine, Md.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna G. Deal; and a nephew.
<B>Deal </B>— Friends of David E. Deal, who died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. David Barnhouse, pastor of Slippery Rock Baptist Church, will officiate.
