Jean H. Dornon
Jean Hannah Ross McCollough Dornon, 101, passed away Monday at her home in Zelienople.
Jean was born in New Castle, May 2, 1909, the first child of Dr. Martin Luther Ross, a physician with the railroad whose work took him to Kaylor, and Elizabeth Cecelia “Celie” McCollough Ross, daughter of William and Hannah McCollough.
Jean had brothers John, who was born and died in 1907, and Charles, who was born in 1911 and died in 2000.
After their mother died in 1913, Jean and Charles were raised by their uncle and aunt, Herbert and Loretta McCollough, at Chicora R.D. 1. Herb and Etta's daughter Helen McCollough Frazer Hoover was born in 1920 and died in 2008. Jean's seven nephews and nieces are Charles' children, Major McCollough (Janet) and Mary McCollough Breen and Helen's children, Marjorie Broderick (Tucker), Mary Phaneuf (Richard), Carol Frazer, David H. (Herb) Frazer and Susan Matthews (Terry). She also is survived by nine great-nieces and great-nephews and nine great-great-nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Jody Eldridge was a loving friend and caregiver to Jean since 2007.
Jean attended elementary and high school in Kepples Corners, Chicora and Karns City. She completed nurse's training and had a long career in providing nursing care.
She married John Dornon in 1959 and lived in Pittsburgh. After John's death, Jean moved to the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople in 1980 and lived at Wittenburg Place.
She was a member of the Park United Presbyterian Church.
<B>DORNON </B>— The funeral for Jean Hannah Ross McCollough Dornon, who died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Seaman Memorial Chapel, Main Building, Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople, with Pastor Paul Merrell of Park United Presbyterian Church officiating.
