John I. Kocher

John I. “Bud” Kocher, 88, formerly of Randy Drive, Butler, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Born Aug. 6, 1922, in Sewickley, he was the son of the late Albert Roy Kocher Sr. and Birdie Stauffer Kocher.

Mr. Kocher worked at the Bantam Car Co., then worked for Butler as a city police officer from 1950 to 1970. He then worked as a security officer at the Pullman Standard Car Co. until the plant closed in 1982.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he attended the Asbury Sunday school class. He was a member of the U.C.T. where he received his 50th year pin. He also was a member of the Kaylor Grange.

Mr. Kocher is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Kocher of Butler, Rhonda and her husband, Neal, Jarrett of Temple, Texas, and Sheila and her husband, Daniel, Uber of Corsica; one son, John W. Kocher of Duncanville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Shawna, Nolan, Katelyn, Evan, Alecia, Nathaniel and Timothy; three great-grandsons, Logan, Dylan and Zachary; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Swigart of Karns City.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kocher was preceded in death by his wife, Florence A. (Shakley) Kocher, who passed away on March 18, 2006; one son, Harold Oliver Kocher; one brother, Albert Roy Kocher Jr.; and two sisters, Viletta Atwell and Ruthie Vandevort.

<B>KOCHER</B> — Friends of John I. “Bud” Kocher, who died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, will be received at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.Contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
