Boyd 'Pat' Smith
Boyd “Pat” Patterson Smith, 67, of Butler passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday at his home.
He was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Butler, the son of the late Boyd Elmer Smith and the late Mary Jayne (McCool) Smith.
Pat was a resident of Polk State School for 25 years, and then he went to Allegheny Valley Senior School, where he learned to live independently. He then came back to Butler, where he retired from the PARC workshop after 32 years.
Pat enjoyed playing the drums and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved clowns, music, serving Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church and playing Santa at PARC. He spent many summers at Camp Sweety.
Surviving are three sisters, Bertiann Thomas, with whom he made his home, Kandace Singer of Butler and Mrs. James (Juanita) Lott of Dawsonville, Ga.; seven nieces and nephews, Kathleen Pringle, who was also his caregiver, John, Brad and Kevin Pringle, Carey and J. Boyd Lott and Alexandra Singer McKim; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his brother, a nephew, and his brother-in-law, Nick Thomas.
<B>SMITH </B>— Friends of Boyd “Pat” Patterson Smith, who died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, will be received at <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Paul Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
