SLIPPERY ROCK — Three members of the Slippery Rock University indoor track and field team qualified for the Division II National Championships.

Brady Wert and Cameron Daugherty will represent the men's team while Whitney Hendershot will make her third appearance for the women.

Wert is competing in the heptathlon, winning the PSAC title in that event this year and finishing 10th at the national meet last season. Daugherty qualified in the pole vault.

Hendershot will compete in the high jump for the third time and is a three-time All-American. The national meet is March 11 and 12 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's men's basketball team (20-9) faces Cheyney (19-8) in a PSAC semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Indiana (Pa.) University.IUP hosts East Stroudsburg in the other semifinal at 7:30.Tickets are available at the door and cost $14 for adults, $5 for youth. Tickets are good for both semifinals and Saturday's 7 p.m. championship game.Students at all four participating institutions will be admitted free to all games with a valid ID.

PITTSBURGH — Organizers added a 5K race to be run the day before the Pittsburgh Marathon, which will be held May 15.Registration for the 5K opens Monday and will be limited to the first 2,000 runners. BRADENTON, Fla. — With a rotation spot secured, Brian Duensing tossed two scoreless innings Wednesday to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.For the Pirates, Jose Tabata and Dusty Brown had RBI singles.Pirates right-hander Ross Ohlendorf pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run and two hits. He walked one and struck out four.The Twins' Luke Hughes hit a solo homer in the sixth off closer Joel Hanrahan.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR is moving its Hall of Fame induction ceremony from May to January beginning in 2012.Chairman Brian France said holding the ceremony during the offseason will give the event its own identity and give the inductees their due attention.The inaugural induction ceremony last year was held the day after the All-Star race, capping a full week of NASCAR activities.This year's induction ceremony is scheduled for May 23, two days after the All-Star race.
