James W. Shirey

James W. Shirey, 84, of Butler died Wednesday evening at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born Jan. 27, 1927, in Foxburg, he was a son of the late Rollo and Grace (Gates) Shirey.

He had worked for the Stewart Warner Alemite Sales Co. as a sales engineer for industrial lubrication systems for the steel industry until his retirement in 1989.

James was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the VFW Post 249 in Butler, the Butler Elks and the American Legion in St. Petersburg, Clarion County.

He was a master carpenter and builder, had enjoyed golfing and playing cards and was a devoted family man.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn O. (O'Donnell) Shirey, who he married June 16, 1948; a daughter, Lisa M. Monday and her husband, Henry Monday Jr. of Fenelton; three grandsons, Adam, Allen and Austin Monday; a granddaughter, Aimee Monday; a sister, Mrs. James (Barbara) Brown of Bruin; a brother, William Shirey of Emlenton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Shirey.

<B>Shirey </B>— Friends of James W. Shirey, who died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will follow.The St. Paul Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
