Busby Jr.

Louis J. Busby Jr., 65, of Edgecomb, Maine, passed away unexpectedly the morning of Feb. 28 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damaris-cotta, Maine.

Born in Portland, Maine, May 15, 1945, he was the son of Donna E. (Davidson) and Louis J. Busby Sr. The family moved from Newcastle, Maine, to Maryland, where he spent his formative years.

Upon retirement in 2007, he returned to the Davidson family homestead in both Newcastle and Edgecomb.

He was predeceased by his father, Louis J. Busby Sr. in June 2010.

Louis attended Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1967.

He then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star and an honorable discharge.

He was a senior quality assurance engineer at Mine Safety Appliances, Instrument Division, in Baltimore, Md., and in Cranberry Township, Butler County, for more than 30 years. He retired from the company in 2007 but remained active as a consultant for MSA.

In the spring of 2007, he returned with his wife, Alida, to his beloved family farm.

Louis enjoyed traveling worldwide and was fluent in several languages. He enjoyed and appreciated music and the arts and was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Alida, of Edgecomb; his mother, Donna E. Busby of Maryland; stepdaughters, Jennifer Landis (James) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Karin Muller (Matthew) of Columbia, Md.; sisters, Jean Gunn and Marguerite Towson both of Maryland; nieces, Sarah Anderson and Angela Fleming; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and other extended family and friends.

<B>BUSBY</B> — A graveside service for Louis J. Busby Jr., who died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, will be in the spring at the Davidson Ancestral Cemetery in Edgecomb, Maine.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Johns Hopkins University, payable to JHU Whiting School of Engineering: The Hopkins Fund, Johns Hopkins University, Office of Annual Giving, San Martin Center, 3400 N.
