Dash

Mary M. Dash, 67, of Erie passed away unexpectedly Monday at her home.

She was born in Mars, Feb. 29, 1944, the daughter of Eleanor Peaco Shak of Mars and the late Joseph Shak Sr.

Mary graduated from Mars High School and then went on to work as a nurse's aide at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center for many years. She also worked as an in-home health care provider for the Benson family.

Mary loved spending time with her family and enjoyed stamping and crafts.

Many neighborhood friends regarded her as a second mother, taking several into her home. She was selfless and charitable often to the point of her own neglect. Her legacy of love will live in the hearts of the lives she touched.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Frank” Dash Jr., in 1978; and a daughter, Letitia Dash, in 1990.

Mary is survived by her three children, Brenda Eggleston and her husband, Rodman Jr., Brian F. Dash and his wife, Yvette, and Joe Dash and his friend, Sue Zuba, all of Erie; three sisters, Carol Sue Smith and her husband, Delbert, of Franklin, Donna Gibson of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Vickie Shak of Mars; two brothers, Joe Shak Jr. of Mars and Roy Shak of Cranberry Township; four grandchildren, James Lindstrom, Zachary Eggleston and Jared and Jenna Dash; and many nieces and nephews.

Dash, who died Monday, March 7, 2011, may call at the <B>Burton Funeral Home and Crematory</B>, 602 W. 10th St., Erie, on Saturday from noon until the time of service at 4 p.m. with the Rev.
