Helen Kwiatkowski

Surrounded by her loving family, Helen Kwiatkowski of Butler, formerly of Gibsonia and Braddock, went peacefully home to heaven Sunday.

She was a daughter of the late Jacob and Josephine Guzakowski Siergiej.

She was born in Braddock and graduated from Braddock High School and then went on to the Braddock General Hospital's School of Nursing, where she studied and obtained her registered nurse's degree.

She met the love of her life, Walter F. Kwiatkowski Jr., when he was one of her patients at Braddock General Hospital. They married and had two children, Terence “Terry” and his wife, Terry, of Butler and a daughter, Kathleen Jo Purtell of Braddock. She also is survived by four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter T. (Ginny) Sergy of Roswell, Ga.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter J. (surviving spouse, Val), Chester (surviving spouse, Helen of Swissvale) and Stanley “Pete” (surviving spouse, Agnes of Braddock); and a sister, Stella Blasik.

Helen was a member of the Alumni Club of the Braddock General Hospital School of Nursing and an active member of Lifesteps of Butler County.

<B>KWIATKOWSKI </B>— Calling hours with the family of Helen Kwiatkowski, who died Sunday, March 20, 2011, will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the <B>SCHLEIFER FUNERAL CHAPEL</B>, 412-271-1361, formerly the Ronald V. Lucas Funeral Home, 534 Jones at Bell avenues, North Braddock. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Thomas J. Burke, pastor of Good Shepherd Church, in the Sacred Heart Church Worship Site at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Restland MemorIal Park, Monroeville.
