Harold N. Mathews

Harold N. Mathews, 83, of Jackson Township passed away Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

He was born April 27, 1927, in Ellwood City and was the son of Paul and Clara Eiler Mathews, who are deceased.

Mr. Mathews was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Evans City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

He retired from Etna-Standard as a welder/fitter after 32 years and from the Seneca Valley School District where he was a school bus driver for 30 years.

Mr. Mathews enjoyed jogging and participating in marathon races throughout the country, as well as gardening and yard work.

Mr. Mathews' family was his life, and his greatest joy was being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myrtle V. (Iddings) Mathews, who he married Nov. 1, 1947; three daughters, Clara (Richard) Phillips of New Brighton, Krystal Mathews of Sarver, and Brenda (Daniel) Lemmon of Prospect; a son, Wray (Debbie) Mathews of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Kirsi (Michael) Hearon, Damian Mathews, Thomas Joseph (Melissa) Walker, Scott (Lin Dah) Phillips, and Michael (Beth) Phillips; 10 great grandchildren, Mikayla, Dagan, Greyson, Natalie, Meghan, Hudson, Chelsea, Macy, Leah, and Kaitlyn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Freda Boyer.

<B>MATHEWS </B>— Friends of Harold N. Mathews, who died Saturday, March 26, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at <B>BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME</B>, 116 E. Main St., Evans City. A funeral service follows at 4 p.m. with the Rev. John C.
