Roy Garland
Roy Garland, beloved husband, father and best known as Uncle Roy, Pap-pap and Grand Pap the Grape, passed away Thursday after a fight with cancer.
He was born May 16, 1931, at his home on Starkamp Street in Brookline to Catherine Mary Miller and Willard Francis Garland Sr.
He attended South Hills High School and graduated as a machinist from Connelly Trade School. He went on to work as a painter with his father and later joined the Equitable Gas Co. from where he retired around 1980.
He met his wife when he was 12 years old, and they were married Sept. 15, 1951. They enjoyed weekends filled with boating and backyard parties along with vacationing and travel adventures.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ruth Garland; a brother, Willard F Garland; three sons, Roy Jr. and Jane Garland, Michael Garland and Daniel and Barb Garland; seven grandchildren, Gregory, Michelle, Chad, Chet, Jamie, Katie and Channing; and eight great-grandchildren, Elias, Tyler Joseph, Anna, Hope, Morgan, Lidia, Xavier and Lana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger sister, Mae Sunder, and daughter-in-law, Clara Garland.
