Bishop's blessed cross stolen
PITTSBURGH — A cross blessed by Pope Benedict XVI has been stolen from a suburban Pittsburgh chapel. Bishop David Zubik said he’s not interested in criminal charges against whoever swiped the cross. He just wants it returned.
The cross was blessed by the pope on the night of his election. It had been the last gift Zubik’s mother gave him before she died in 2006.
The cross disappeared last week from the St. Paul Seminary chapel in Crafton.
Zubik said the cross was the one he wore only with his vestments. He said it mysteriously moved to a different drawer on Friday and disappeared Saturday.
