Opal M. Garris, 76, of Butler passed away at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Parker, the daughter of the late Roy W. Shay and the late H. Pauline (Jones) Shay.

Opal was a member of the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church and its Christian Women's Club.

She was a graduate of The Butler Business School and had worked at the T.W. Phillips Gas & Oil Co. She also had been a bus monitor for the Butler School District.

She enjoyed her card clubs, bird-watching and watching movies.

Surviving are her husband, Russell E. Garris Jr., who she married Nov. 16, 1957; a daughter, Valerie E. (Jeffrey) Graham of Butler; two sons, Larry Ray (Denise Richardson) Garris of Wilkins Township and Kevin E. Garris of Arnold; four grandchildren, David Garris, Jessica Richardson, Jeffrey Ryan Graham and Alyssa Graham; and two brothers, Roy (Kate) Shay Jr. of Knox and Gary (Louise) Shay of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Jane McCloskey; and a granddaughter, Sarah Richardson.

<B>GARRIS</B> — Friends of Opal M. Garris, who died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, will be received at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., Butler. Services will be at the church Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Don Short officiating.
