SR's Thompson wins at MCAC
Slippery Rock High junior Ryan Thompson won the 800 and 1,600 at the Mercer County Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Hickory High School Saturday.
Thompson ran a time of 4 minutes, 39.38 seconds in the 1,600 and was close to breaking the school record in the 800 with a time of 2:00.43.
The Slippery Rock record in the 800 is 2:00.00.
Alex Flecker placed third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:26.80 and Davis Dimit was fourth in the 110 hurdles, coming in at 16.91 seconds.
Nate Fowler was third in the discus (141 feet, ½ inch) and freshman Mitch May was sixth in the javelin with a toss of 138-3.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Pat Anna, Eric Beachem, Flecker and Thompson placed eighth.
On the girls side, Anna Cessar was second in the 800 with a time of 2:30.86 while Alexis Reeher also placed second in the 200, coming in at 23.37.
Jessica Bennett ran a time of 12:02.91 in the 3,200 to place third and Bre Northcott was third in the javelin (105-1) and eighth in the shot put (33-11¼).
Aster Chmielewski was fourth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 100 hurdles with times of 51.31 and 17.53 respectively.
Two Rockets' relay teams also had standout performances. The 3,200 relay team of Chmielewski, Hope Vitous, Reeher and Heather Urbaniak was third with a time of 10:47.67. The 1,600 relay team of Reeher, Cessar, Chmieleski and Urbanik placed fourth with a time of 4:29.04.
Other placers for the Slippery Rock girls included Kayla McKnight (sixth in the pole vault), Liv Green (seventh in the 1,600), Michaela Ripley (seventh in the 300 hurdles), Chelsea Masters (eighth in the discus) and Vitous (eighth in the 200).
