Volcano ash cancels flights
LONDON — Scottish regional airline Loganair has canceled most of its flights for Tuesday morning as a high-density cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcano approaches the country.
Glasgow-based Loganair says it will ground 36 flights between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Flights between Scottish islands will be unaffected.
Authorities say there are no plans to close air space. The cloud from the Grimsvotn volcano is expected to reach Scotland and Ireland tonight.
Last year the eruption of another volcano in Iceland led to the grounding of thousands of flights. Airlines lost millions of dollars and millions of travelers were stranded.
