A summer at the theater

Here are planned theater events this summer.

Butler Summer DramaticsThe Butler Summer Dramatic Project, open to anyone ages 10 to 25, will stage the musical “Annie” for its summer show.Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. May 29 and June 1 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church hall, 127 Franklin St. Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. June 2.The show will go on at 7:30 p.m. July 28, 29 and 30 and at 2 p.m. July 31 at the Succop Theater on the campus of Butler County Community College.Tickets are $10 or $12 and will be available beginning in June at May’s Music Shoppe, 247 E. Comtra TheatreOn tap this summer for the Comtra Theatre, Route 19 in Cranberry Township, are these shows:• “Father of the Bride,” a comedy, through June 4• “Titanic to All Ships,” an historical drama, June 10 to 15• “Carousel,” a musical, July 1 to 16• “Nunsensations: The Las Vegas Nunsense Revue,” a musical, July 22 to Aug. 6• “The Wizard of Oz,” a musical, Aug. 12 to 27.Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $12 for plays and $15 for musicals. Reservations can be made at 724-773-9896.

Freeport Theatre FestivalThe Freeport Theatre Festival will present its 22nd summer season, which is dedicated to the comic muse.• World premiere of “Spotlight!” described as new comic entertainment of whimsical proportions, written by Louise Rockwell and directed by Marushka Steele.The opening night of July 8 is sold out. Other shows start at 8 p.m. July 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24.In the FTF Footlights Gallery will be the art of sculptor Sam Andrew and nature photographer Becky Andrew.• “You Can’t Take It with You,” Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Direction will be by Tom Abbott.Performances will at 8 p.m. Aug. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28.In the FTF Footlights Gallery will be works by members of the Student Art Club at Highlands Junior and Senior high schools.Admission is the same as last summer: $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students.The location of the show is the Steele Farm on White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.Pre-theater dinner is available at the River Forest Country Club. Musical Theatre GuildThe Musical Theatre Guild of Butler will present the comedy “Hats!” from July 15 to 17 and 22 to 24 in the William A. Lehnerd Performance Hall in Butler Memorial Park.Showtimes are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.Tickets cost $17 and will be available in advance at May’s Music Shoppe, 247 W. Jefferson St. Tickets will also be available at the door, if they have not all been sold in advance.Call 724-287-8243.

Sing Hosanna!Sing Hosanna! will host Camp Createamusical from July 11 to 16. A fee is required.Sing Hosanna! also will host a comedy dinner theater Aug. 6 in two sessions, one at noon and one at 5 p.m. Reservations are required.For information, call 724-287-8362.
