Theodore A. 'Duck' Nelson Jr.
Theodore A. “Duck” Nelson Jr., 78, of Mars died Sunday morning at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.
Born in Pittsburgh, Nov. 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Theodore A. “Ted” and Muriel Shilling Nelson Sr.
Duck was a truck driver for Vogel Disposal in Mars. He also had served as mayor of Mars for several years.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Mars VFW Post 7505, the Mars American Legion Post 787 and the Harmony Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores Mincer Nelson, who he married June 22, 1957; two daughters, Nancy Pappas (Brian) of Evans City and Shirley Govan (James) of Valencia; and two sons, James Nelson (Margaret) of Clinton Township and Donald Nelson (Jean) of Mars. He was the grandfather of Kristy Nelson Martello (Joseph), Danielle Nelson, Rebecca Pappas, Faith Ann Govan, Chad Nelson, Sarah Pappas, Lindsay Nelson, Laura Pappas, Lukas Nelson, Hannah Govan and Jakub Nelson; great-grandfather of Joseph Donald, Alexis and Will Martello; and nephew of Harry Nelson of Gibsonia and Margaret McKibben of Chicora.
<B>NELSON </B>— Friends of Theodore A. “Duck” Nelson Jr., who died Sunday, April 24, 2011, are invited to a memorial service at the Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Peter deVries, pastor, officiating.
