Mary Dobransky

Mary Dobransky, 90, of Butler passed away Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mary was born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 4, 1920, a daughter of Nicholas and Katherine Swedyk Dobransky. She soon settled in Butler at a young age.

She attended Butler High School and worked a variety of jobs at some of the historical businesses in the area: the Nixon Hotel in the 1940s, the Vin-Mar Diner during the 1950s, the Sun Drug Store on Main Street in the 1960s and 1970s and finally at the Butler Eagle as an assembler in the circulation department for 17 years, retiring in 2000.

Having never owned a car, she was a lifelong walker and became known as the “lady who walks.”

Mary was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church in Lyndora and had been involved for decades with the many activities of the church.

Mary always enjoyed talking with people and being of service to others. Her busy manner helped keep her vital for all of the 90 years she lived, and she will be very missed.

She is survived by her brother, Alex Dobransky and his wife, Alice, of Youngstown, Ohio; her beloved nephew, Doug Dobransky of Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Butler and Youngstown; and a grand-nephew, Kris Sirak of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete and Nick Dobransky; and a niece, Cheryl Dobransky Kraynik.
