Donald Kennedy
Donald Ralph “Doc” Kennedy of Lakewood, Calif., passed away March 9.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jean Kennedy; a brother, William Kennedy; a daughter, Nancy Ellen VanDenburg (Larry); three grandchildren, David Searle (Julie), and Lauren and Ryan VanDenburg; and a great-grandson, Trent Searle. He also is survived by his stepmother, June Kennedy; and two half-brothers, Ralph and Paul Kennedy.
One sister, Mary Louise Harris, passed away in 2005.
Doc was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Butler.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in the 100th Infantry Division during World War II, earning the Bronze Star.
He attended the University of Pittsburgh and Washington and Jefferson University, before accepting employment with IBM as a customer service engineer. He was employed by IBM in Pennsylvania and also in California, after moving to Lakewood in 1958. He retired in 1991.
Doc will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
