Carnegie Mellon University graduate Molly Evans was one of 15 student athletes in Division II and III to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Women's Swimming At-Large first team.
This marks the third consecutive year Evans, a Butler High graduate, has received first-team honors from District 2, which includes schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, new Jersey, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Evans broke eight school records this year and has her name on 13 overall records.
Seneca Valley volleyball players Zach Herrmann and Chad Albert were recently named to first-team all-section and all-WPIAL squads this past season.Cameron Knight and Ben Hart were selected all-section and the WPIAL second-team while Brad Parrish was a second-team all-section choice.The team finished with a 15-4 record and reached the WPIAL Quad a championship game against fellow section squad North Allegheny and made their first PIAA playoff appearance.
PITTSBURGH — The Boston Red Sox have traded minor league catcher Mike McKenry to the Pittsburgh Pirates for either a player to be named or cash.The 26-year-old McKenry was hitting .274 with three home runs and 12 RBIs at Triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox got him from the Colorado organization on March 29.McKenry made his major league debut last September, playing six games for the Rockies.
CANASTOTA, N.Y. — Mike Tyson broke down in tears and cut short his speech while Sylvester Stallone proclaimed “Yo, Adrian, I did it!” as the two stars from different fields were inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.Mexican champ Julio Cesar Chavez, Russian-born junior welterweight Kostya Tszyu, Mexican trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain and referee Joe Cortez also were inducted.Posthumous honorees enshrined included: bantamweight Memphis Pal Moore, light heavyweight Jack Root and middleweight Dave Shade; British heavyweight John Gully ; promoter A.F. Bettinson; and former broadcaster Harry Carpenter.
