Alda M. Edwards
Alda M. Edwards, 90, of Fairmont Road, Chicora, died early Sunday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following an extended illness.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, Jan. 8, 1921. She was the daughter of William B. and Mary I. Early McGarvey.
She was a 1938 graduate of the Fairview Township Karns City High School. In her earlier years, she had been employed as a secretary at the Starlight Refinery at Penn Drake in Karns City.
She was a longtime active member of the Karns City United Methodist Church and was a member of the Who Do Sunday School Class.
She enjoyed talking and spending time with her sisters. She and her sister, Hattie, were well-known loyal fans at many Karns City athletic events. They also loved attending her grandson Josh's baseball games.
She was married in the Chicora United Methodist Church to Thomas Richard Edwards on Aug. 2, 1947. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1987.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas M. Edwards and his wife, Cheryl, of Chicora, Brad Edwards of Butler and Kirk B. Edwards and his wife, Christine Evankovich Edwards, of Butler. Also surviving are three sisters, Eleanor Hazlett of Butler, Sarah Shaffer of Jenison, Mich., and Hattie Williams of Karns City; eight grandchildren, Melinda Cunningham and her husband Eric, Rachelle Cote and her husband, Justin, Megan Raishart and her husband, Warren, Josh Edwards and his fiance, Maria Klutinoty, Kaleigh Edwards, Kiley Edwards, Alex Edward and Alexis Brandon; seven great-grandchildren, Bryce and Lexie Cunningham, Austin, Mya and Blake Cote and Keira and Gia Raishart; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Madge L. Bowser; and three brothers, William, Dalmer and Stanley McGarvey.

Edwards, who died Sunday, May 15, 2011, will be received at the <B>Hile Funeral Home of Chicora</B>, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Karns City United Methodist Church, 117 Petrolia St., Karns City, with the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, former church pastor, officiating.
