Butler police searching for suspected robber

Butler police are seeking a suspected robber accused of forcing his way into an apartment Friday afternoon and making off with a television set.

William L. Cox, 24, no known address, is wanted an arrest warrant in connection with the break-in at Krystal Otto’s home on State Street, police said.

Otto told investigators that a man she knows by the street name “Little Smoke” about 2:15 p.m. barged into her apartment, “began to beat on people and demanded money,” a police report said. t

Otto fled her apartment and called 911. At least two of her friends were still there when she left.

She told police the suspect apparently came looking for her brother.

After calling for help, police said, Otto returned to her apartment and learned that Cox had taken her TV. A friend later recovered the television and returned it to Otto.

Cox is no stranger to city officers.

Earlier this year they arrested him on charges he stole a wallet from a man he accosted March 18 at the alleged victim’s North Main Street apartment.

Cox was charged with robbery and theft.

However, authorities in May withdrew those charges after the victim failed to show up for the preliminary hearing.
