Herbert E. McConnell, 94, of Butler passed away at 4:24 p.m. Friday in Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Paintertown, Westmoreland County, to the late Earl McConnell and Blanche Brown McConnell.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the North Street Christian Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a master sergeant in Africa, Italy, Germany and France.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170 and the VFW Post 249.

Mr. McConnell is survived by one son, Jack and his wife, Veronica, McConnell of Butler; one daughter, Norma Jean and her husband, Don, Martin of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; five nieces; and two nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jean McConnell, who he married June 13, 1940, and who passed away Aug. 10, 2004; one sister; and two brothers.

<B>MCCONNELL</B> — Friends of Herbert E. McConnell, who died Friday, June 10, 2011, will be received at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert C. Huber of the North Street Christian Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of All Faiths Mausoleum in Greenlawn Burial Estates.Officer and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military services at the Chapel of All Faiths Mausoleum at Greenlawn Burial Estates.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
