Margaret Viola Cook, 86, of Mars, formerly of Gibsonia, peacefully passed away Sunday evening at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh to be with the Lord.

Born in Millerstown, Dec. 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Catherine Morrow Cook.

She retired as a telephone operator from the North Pittsburgh Telephone Co.

Surviving are a beloved brother, William H. Cook of Mars; two nieces, Wanda Boyle and her husband, Thom, of Hollidaysburg and Ruth Geller and her husband, Gary, of Mars; and two nephews, Daniel Cook and his wife, Amporn, of Saudi Arabia and Martin Cook and his wife, Nancy, of Sicklerville, N.J. Also surviving are a special family friend, Sue Cook, and numerous well-loved great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Esther Mae Cook.

Margaret was a member of the Hampton United Presbyterian Church for many years. After moving to Mars in 1989 from Gibsonia, she was a faithful servant to the Lord at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and led Bible studies and also served as a deacon.

She was a member of the Mars AARP, where she was an active member for more than 20 years, serving as its travel/trip organizer for most of those years.

Bowling was always a part of Margie’s life since she was a child. She was the founder and shepard of the Sweet Seniors Bowling League at Mars Lanes since 1989. Her last game was bowled May 9 2011, finishing up the season.

She will be remembered as a caring, spiritual woman who loved everyone and was devoted to her family. She was known for her patience, strong religious beliefs, knowledge of the Bible and how she lived her beliefs each and every day.

Margaret was admired by all who knew her. She was proud of her good health and her independence.

COOK — Friends of Margaret Viola Cook, who died Sunday, June 26, 2011, will be received at the

McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave. Mars, with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor, officiating. Please meet at the church.
