Vivian L. “Jiggs” DeSantis, 86, of Renfrew passed away Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born Dec. 8, 1924, in Branchton, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Velma McCune Burdick.

She was a retired legal secretary. She formerly worked as a medical secretary at Walter Reed Hospital. She also was a former secretary for Time-Life Magazines in New York City, and she also served in various other secretarial positions.

She was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian and the Butler Country Club. She also was involved in various other community activities.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan E. DeSantis, who she was married to for 64 years; one son, William A. DeSantis and his wife, Susan, of Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia Hurd and her husband, Bill, of Penn Township and Jane G. Bean and her husband, John Richard, of South Park; three sisters, Mrs. Marilyn Rider of Meridian, Mrs. Ruth Dietz of Penn Hills and Mrs. Diane Kosick and her husband, Regis, of Parker; eight grandchildren, Mark Hurd and his wife, Elisa, of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Megan Hurd of Penn Township, Erik Hurd of Penn Township, Christine Rowing and her husband, Allen, of Granger, Ind., John Richard Bean Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Jefferson Hills, Joelle Dixon and her husband, Dennis, of Bethel Park, Jason DeSantis and his wife, Brianne, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Jessica Owen and her husband, Lucas, of Palm Beach, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren, Tristan, Lucy, Jack, Grace, Alexandra, Jack R., Jake and Zorin.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Christy, and one brother, William Burdick.

<B>DESANTIS</B> — Friends of Vivian L. “Jiggs” DeSantis, who died Thursday, June 30, 2011, will be received in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Meridian, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will meet at the funeral home on Sunday at 3 p.m. for a vigil service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to VNA Inpatient Hospice.For more information, visit www.martinfh.net.
