William J. King

William J. King, 88, of Butler passed away at 7:50 a.m. Thursday at the New Haven Court at Clearview.

He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Chicora to the late Harry Samuel King and Ruth Eva McGarvey King.

Mr. King was a veteran of the U.S. Army Calvary, serving during World War II in the European Theatre.

He worked at Pullman Standard for 20 years until it closed in October 1981. He was a plastering contractor for much of his life, totaling 45 years.

Mr. King was a member of the Butler County Travel Trailer Club (B.U.C.O.) and United Commercial Travelers (U.C.T.) of Butler.

He was a member of the North Main Street Church of God.

He enjoyed camping trips with his wife to Florida and gardening. He worked hard and traveled far.

Mr. King is survived by one son, William Rodney (Belinda) King of Slippery Rock; one daughter, Brenda (James) Grosclaude of Butler; three grandsons, Randy Grosclaude, Colby King, and Trevor King; two sisters, Ms. Betty Balsinger of Butler and Ms. Ruth McKinney of Meridian; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen H. Curry King who he married Sept. 18, 1945, and who passed away March 20, 2008; and his brother, Kenneth King.

<B>KING</B> — Friends of William J. King, who died Thursday, June 30, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Memorials are suggested to the North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, PA 16001.
