Norman Harold 'Bud' Rieder Jr.

Rieder Jr.

Norman Harold “Bud” Rieder Jr., 81, of Bruin passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born July 26, 1929, in Warren, Pa., the son of Norman Henry and Elzora Marie (Buzard) Rieder.

Bud was a resident of the area most of his life.

He was a member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Bruin High School, Class of 1947, where he played basketball and made the first team.

Bud married Florence Levier on April 16, 1950, and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in April of this year.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era from 1952 through 1954 in Austria fixing radios.

Upon his return from the war, he was hired at Penreco where he worked for 47 years, retiring in 1994.

Bud was a member of the VFW Post 7876 of Chicora.

Bud was a friend to all who knew him. All who made his acquaintance were given the gift of his charm and love of people.

He was an avid fisherman and was never happier than when he was on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park fishing for the entire day with his son-in-law, Jackie. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years, bowling, and golfing in the Penreco Golf League.

The life of Bud Rieder is one of love of family, a strong work ethic, an appreciation of nature, embracing life with enjoyment and never tackling anything with less than all he had to give. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be truly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Florence M. (Levier) Rieder; his daughter, Debra Jordan and her husband, Jackie, of Bruin; three grandchildren, Alisha Ann Holt and her husband, Robert, Stefanie Lynn Whitmer and her husband, Dean, and Michael Jordan; five great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Barbara Hiles of Chicora and Dixie Cooper and her husband, Dick, of Harrisburg.
