Pirates' Stargell to be featured on new stamp

PITTSBURGH — The U.S. Postal Service is honoring the late Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Willie Stargell with his own postage stamp.

WECT-TV in Wilmington, N.C. got the OK from the Postal Service to report the new stamp on Wednesday, a day before it was officially announced. Stargell lived in Wilmington until he died in 2001.

Stargell’s stamp is one of four to recently feature Hall of Famers. Stamps honoring New York Yankees star Joe DiMaggio and Larry Doby, the first black player in the American League, are already out. A fourth stamp featuring a yet-to-be announced player will come out with Stargell’s next year.
