Helen M. McCully
Helen M. McCully of Allegany, N.Y., died Sunday in Olean General Hospital in New York after a brief illness.
Born April 16, 1918, in Marion, Ind., she was the daughter of John and Anna Fleming Moorman.
On Feb. 14, 1946, in Valencia, she married Harry M. McCully, who predeceased her March 31, 2001.
Helen graduated from Mars High School in 1936 and from Grace Martin Secretarial School, Pittsburgh.
She worked as a secretary at H.J. Heinz and Congoleum Nairn in Pittsburgh. Then after marrying, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she was a secretary to the vice president at Columbus Bolt Works. Ultimately, after spending many years in Allegany raising a family of five, she returned to work as a legal secretary for attorney Joseph C. Bordonaro in Olean, N.Y., until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean and a volunteer for the Regina Quick Center at St. Bonaventure University.
She had a lifelong love of travel and playing bridge. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Surviving are three sons, Don (Julie) McCully of La Habra, Calif., John (Linda) McCully of Seneca Falls, N.Y., and Dean (Sharon) McCully of River Forest, Ill.; twin daughters, Jean (James) Parker of Bethlehem, Pa., and Joan (Mark) McGonnell of Olean; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Dorwin Moorman and John Moorman.
MCCULLY — At the request of Helen M. McCully, who died Sunday, July 24, 2011, there will be no visitation. Private interment will be in Allegany Cemetery.
