Tompkins Jr.

John Ira Tompkins Jr., 72, of West Liberty died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday at UPMC Shadyside.

Born in Butler, Sept. 16, 1938, he was the son of John Ira Tompkins Sr. and Alice Aiken Tompkins Bellis.

He married Margie Carol Logue on Feb. 2, 1962.

Mr. Tompkins retired in 1982 from Pullman Standard, Butler, where he was a welder for 20 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Margie C. Tompkins of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Brandy J. (Jake) Flickinger of Mercer and Sharon A. (Scott) Dodds of Mercer; five half-sisters; and two brothers, Alan Lee (Marcia) Tompkins of Pikeville, Tenn., and Frederick Dean (Catherine) Tompkins of Butler. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Robert Tompkins.

<B>TOMPKINS</B> — The family of John Ira Tompkins Jr., who died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, will observe a private service Sunday.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillman Cancer Research Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232Arrangements are under the direction of <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
